Val Camonica Water
Dedicated to the disappearing waters of the Adamello Glacier...
This project explores the relationship between water, memory, and climate change through field research in Val Camonica. I worked with a dataset focused on geolocated local stories and photographic documentation of their present-day sites, alongside personal journaling and mapping of various water forms encountered during the journey. The work was driven by the predicted disappearance of the Adamello Glacier by 2080 and the loss of the water ecosystems it sustains.
Inspired by the concept of water memory, I developed a narrative not told by humans, but by the water itself—foregrounding ecological grief and inviting reflection on how to preserve this fragile archive of Val Camonica: its stories, waters, and landscape. The final outcome is a short video with series of micro-narratives, where stories are written using water collected from the valley—stories that disappear after a while, mirroring the vanishing glacier and the fading cultural memory of the region. The stories are accompanied by sound recordings from a local stream, where the water was collected, to foster a sensory connection to the place. This work is a tribute to the glacier, to the water it gave, and to the memories—both humans and non humans—that are at risk of being lost…
